Colour Project Enjoys Day with Carolyn Newman

Throughout their year on the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Colour Project, members of the team have learnt from some of the best in the business – including, this week, the iconic Carolyn Newman.

Widely regarded as one of the colour industry’s leading ladies, Carolyn’s 30-year career started with a place on the first ever F.A.M.E. Team. Since then, her work has graced the pages of titles including Vogue, Marie Claire and Tatler and her client list reads like a who’s who of celebrity style. She is perhaps best known as the colour director of Charles Worthington, but has recently launched her own freelance business; Carolyn Newman Colour and Education.

With such an extensive career, there was perhaps no-one better placed to guide the Colour Project team through their penultimate session of the year, ahead of their stage debut at Salon International later this year.

The team spent the day at the L'Oréal Academy in London, where Carolyn helped the team understand how to create cohesive collections, as well as how to turn a creative concept into a reality. They were tasked with coming with moodboards outlining the kind of work that they’d like to do at Salon International, which was then shared with the team and developed together.

Team member Natalie Newton commented: “It was really inspiring spending the day with Carolyn. We spent the morning learning about trends and how to turn our ideas into shows and collections – this was brilliant, because Carolyn is so motivating and a great educator.  We then took it in turns to present the ideas we each had for our Salon International show and, working as a team, planned how to make it all come to life on the day.  I feel like we each got loads out of it and feel much more prepared for the big show in October. We can't wait to showcase our work now!”

The Colour Project will present on the Fellowship stage at Salon International on Monday 15 October.
