F.A.M.E. TEAM GET TO SPEND THE DAY WITH RICHARD ASHFORTH ALL ABOUT PRECISION CUTTING!

Richard Ashforth, Education Ambassador for Alfaparf Milano in the UK & Ireland guided the team through a precision cutting workshop. Richard spent years working with Vidal Sassoon before opening the Saco Salon Group, and today is the brand’s International Creative Director.

Steph Gallagher comments: “The day with Richard was honestly perfectly timed for me. I was never really taught “Sassoon style” and felt it was something I never really understood, even when someone was trying to talk me through fundamentals of Sassoon training and language they would maybe use.  What I took from the day with Richard, was that he explained, simplified and reworded some of those fundamentals of precision and technique into terms, which I fully got, like a light bulb moment. It was so lovely to meet Richard Ashforth, I’ve been told so many things about him and his style so was great, having that 1:1 style session with him explaining his background and creative outlook, where he was drawn to for inspiration growing up. I’ve came away, feeling more confident in myself and my understanding of precision work but also the bug to get more expressive with my cutting work all whilst continuing to explore my own creative style and story.”

Edd Moss comments: “The day with Richard Ashforth which stared first with a demo cut on a mod style and then we got to practise ourselves. It was great to learn lines, graduating and layering techniques. Also how to stand when cutting and what angles to place the head. This was really beneficial to myself as cutting is not my strongest area of hair so learnt lots and lots to practice!”

James Parr added: "We had an amazing day with Richard Ashforth, who did an amazing demo for us in the morning, sharing his philosophy of cutting hair, where he finds his inspirations and his way of thinking. It completely changed the way I look at cutting hair, respecting the hair's natural movement and the way it’s sits - breaking down barriers and simplifying the craft. In the afternoon, we did a workshop which again was amazing to get 1-1 training with à precision master, where I learnt that that working slower and in more detail actually makes you work faster!"

Stacey Wright added: "We got to know Richard, through finding out about his back story, which gave us a little insight to where he is now. We also discovered his idols and what was the driving force behind his creativity. Adapting the skills we had just learnt from him, we got to create a look on our model. It was great to discover his approach to cutting hair, the laws he goes by, and ultimately his respect for the hair he is working on, choosing to work with its natural fall to get the best out of the hair cut, whilst creating the best outcome for the client to then manage their hairstyle moving forward. This was my first actual session with “Cutting” as my work is normally based on colour. Well after that it won’t be my last! I had a great day!"
