Fellowship Salons Take to the Stage for Members’ Night

The first Fellowship for British Hairdressing Members’ Night of 2020 took place at the Wella Studio in London, with a sell-out show and diverse schedule of artists on stage.

Hosted by President Ken Picton, with guest comperes Ashleigh Hodges and Simon Shaw, the night saw Fellowship members old and new – including two who joined in January! – present models.

First on stage was Chelsey Stone from Stone and Co, who presented her Fusion collection. Fusing sci-fi and sustainability, hair looks had an organic feel with understated styling and soft tones.

Charlie Cullen from Joe and Co – stepping in for a sick Joe Mills – represented the salon owner’s passion for music with a Britpop-inspired trio of male looks. Long and textured styles took a cue from Liam Gallagher with a 60s meets 90s feel.

The Bloggs Salons Art Team brought their passion for sustainability to life with creative, upcycled looks – including styles woven with used colour capes and reused hair wefts.

Lizzie Williams from KH Hair came straight from London Fashion Week, and brought her passion for session styling to the stage with a long braid, decorated with metal hoops.

Tia Liddiard and Lisa Kennedy from Artifact Salons presented Solo Rouge; an Alexander McQueen-inspired collection that celebrated strong women with structured styles and military detailing.

Making their stage debut, The Hair Cooperative presented a collection called The Individualists. As a team formed of stylists from different salons, this individual approach didn't just celebrate their own personalities, but also those of their models.

In a break from the shows, next it was time for Ken to interview the evening’s special guest, Andy Heasman from Rush. The reigning London Hairdresser of the Year talked about his experiences of the Fellowship, his exhaustive career and passion for education. “It’s important to never stop learning,” he said. “Education is key, no matter your level of experience.”

Next on stage were the Ruffians team, celebrating the return of the mullet with two looks bringing the trend firmly into the 21st century, while respecting its hairdressing heritage.

The Thomas Hills team also looked to the past, reinventing former collections by their award-winning salon owner. Looks included a neon orange crop, and a headpiece was a 12-hour team effort.

New member Christopher Law showcased a hand-crafted and coloured wig inspired by the Northern Lights, with beautiful iridescent tones.

Also representing new members, Jake Alexander celebrated strong, fearless women with two dynamic looks; a red mohawk and a two-tone crop.

The Simon Webster team presented the Brighton Contingent collection, inspired by the Sex Pistol’s original groupies the Bromley Contingent. With DIY-feel colour, frayed edge and raw styling, the punk spirit was alive and well.

Finally, the Gina Conway Aveda team presented their Anti Gravity collection. Featuring playful volume and unexpected bursts of movement, looks had a weightless, uncontrived feel.
