Hair & Vision Lights Up London

Hair & Vision is the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s ultimate creative platform, providing an open stage for members to showcase their creativity from start to finish – as well as providing insight into their process.

The first Hair & Vision event of 2019 saw members take to the stage at Proud Cabaret in London, where the vintage theatre-style surroundings provided a suitably inspiring set for members to create their own magic live on stage.

Opening the night, hosts Simon Tuckwell and Fellowship President Karine Jackson thanked the audience for their support, and promised an evening of seriously exciting hair from a diverse lineup of talent.

First on stage were Chenna from Manifesto showcasing trademark wearable, trend-led men’s looks; Karoliina Saunders with punk-inspired texture, inspired by her regular work backstage at fashion week; and Roman Sys from Trevor Sorbie who presented intricate looping chains within the hair, inspired by repetition in nature.

Next up was Ashleigh Hodges with a twisted take on a ponytail, combining knots, texture and bicycle chain as hair accessories. Junior Green presented intricate fingerwaves, finished with shimmering glitter, and Sam Burnett created an undulating updo with organic, bending shapes.

Then it was over to the Live Lounge, where Karine sat down with two TONI&GUY icons, Cos Sakkas and Indira Schauwecker to hear more about their creative process. Between them, the two have won countless awards for their artistry and now work as the brand’s International Artistic Directors. As well as showcasing some of their trademark techniques, the two also shared the stories of their success. Indira started her career as part of the Fellowship’s F.A.M.E. Team and described it as “the biggest push for my career… it allowed me to find a bigger hairdressing family and discover my true potential.” Meanwhile, Cos reflected on the power of hairdressing, describing it as, “the best thing you could ever do for a job,” and adding, “we need to be proud of our industry, and really shout about it to others.”

Then, it was time for the final three hair shows, with Mary Geoghegan from KH Hair, Altin Ismaili from Marc Antoni and Nicola Smyth from Nicola Smyth Award Winning Hair. Reigning Eastern Hairdresser of the Year, Mary, was inspired by Vivienne Westwood with pastelised punk colours and bound sections of hair. Altin showcased his technical cutting skills with a sleek blonde crop, and Nicola closed out the night with a dazzling neon look in hi-vis colour.
