Presidents' Network Evening

This year’s renowned President’s Night took place in a different venue with a very different format recently. Skylon’s picturesque Southbank location provided the perfect setting for the evening’s fresh new set-up. For this interim Presidency year, the formal format of the President’s Night moved aside for an altogether more laidback, free-flowing take with a DJ set adding to the atmosphere buzz.

“For this interim year of the Presidency, we wanted to give our members the platform to meet other industry members who they may not have had the chance to meet otherwise!” said President Karine Jackson. Skylon was
packed to the rafters with Fellowship members, the council, the incredible sponsors and the trade press, who all well and truly raised the roof for the occasion.

President’s Network also saw the return of the Live Lounge, where a handful of wonderful guests took to the stage to sit beneath the hood. First to the stage was President Karine Jackson, accompanied by Jo Martin, who’s two-year role as Chairman is coming to an end. Jo reflected on her time in the chair, as her and Karine shared stories from their time working together, including the Hairdressers Charity bike ride in Italy last summer, leading nicely into the charity’s President, Sam Grocutt, taking to the spotlight to explain the wonderful work of the organisation.

President’s Network was the perfect occasion for members to celebrate the announcement of this year’s winner of the Christofer Mann Step UP & SHINE Scholarship in association with NHF to be announced. Securing the runners-up spot is Kim Jones from The Salon, and this year’s talented winner is Nicola Hamm from Escape Hair Lounge. Nicola will now embark on an invaluable journey of education worth £2,500, put together and mentored by industry legend Debbie G. To close the evening, exclusive interviews were live streamed to thousands on social media. First up was Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year, Jamie Stevens who shared stories from his days on the F.A.M.E. Team, which he revealed was the biggest and best thing he has ever done. He was joined by Karine, who took the time to talk the audience through her journey with the Fellowship and how it has led to where she is today as the President.
Sarah Black from Linton and Mac also took to the Live Lounge stage as the current winner of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy joined by Darren Oram from L’Oréal Professionnel, closely followed by Lydia Wolfe from Tony Wood Hair who won the Goldwell Colour Zoom Young Talent award, joined by Mark Giannandrea from Goldwell. They spoke about how these coveted titles have completely changed their careers for the better and encouraged anyone thinking of entering the competitions to take their chances and go for it!

Lastly, former British Hairdresser of the Year Darren Ambrose sat in the hot seat in the Live Lounge, along with Jayne Lewis-Orr, Executive Director at Hairdressers Journal International to talk all things British Hairdressing Awards and reliving that incredible moment in 2015 when his name was called as the winner of one of the biggest titles in the history of hairdressing.

“What a difference we made,” says President Karine Jackson, “The room was buzzing with noise from everyone talking and networking, so if you missed the speeches they are all on Facebook live! The world is changing which means our industry is changing. As Henry Ford says, ‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.’ At the Fellowship we have always prided ourselves as being the leaders of change, and that’s what we are doing!”
