PROJECT SCOTLAND TEAM DAY WITH SCOTT COOPER ALIAS ‘THE CURLY SCOTT’

The team travelled to BB Hair Collective in Glasgow, the home of Scott Cooper, alias ‘The Curly Scott’ and founder of BBCURLS.

A former Project Afro team member Chris travels the world collaborating with professional hairstylists and organisations to recognise and appreciate the diversity of hair types and textures. 

The day was all about an Introduction to curls. 

Natalie Stephen comments: “Today was amazing! Scott’s energy and knowledge were super informative. His approach to education was fun and fast-paced, but we definitely got so much out of it. I felt like a sponge, soaking in all the information possible. The models he brought in were great—they all shared their personal experiences, helped us understand how to make them feel comfortable, and passed on their past experiences. Today was unbelievably invaluable to my career. It made me realize that I could be more inclusive as a stylist.”

Tina Thomson comments: "What an emotionally inspiring day. To understand not just about textured hair but the clients hearing their stories the frustrations the anxieties that they shared with us made me realise just how much we need to make our spaces more inclusive for everyone. Scott was truly inspiring and what a fun day the energy and passion Scot has for textured hair was so cool I loved every minute of it of it thank you so much Scott."

Connie Graham added: "A fantastic day of learning techniques and reinforcing the basic science of hair, the opportunity to sit down with the models with Afro hair and hear there stories and experiences was the best part of the day I really learned so much them. One thing that stuck with me one of the girls said 'going to the salon should be a fun experience that you should look forward to,but for me it's been traumatic' no one should ever feel like this and has inspired me  to learn more."
