Robert Eaton Mentors Colour Project Team

Robert Eaton, Creative Director of Russell Eaton salons recently gave up a day to mentor the future generation of colourists; the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Colour Project.

The team spent the day at the Wella World Studio in central London, where Robert – who is reigning British Colour Technician of the Year – passed on some of his technical expertise.

In the morning, he shared his journey to success as part of the family salon group – which is celebrating 40 years in business in 2018. As well his current title at the British Hairdressing Awards, Robert is also in the Hall of Fame as three-times winner of North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year. He’s also a twice-winner of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy, and an acclaimed educator. He’s also a former member of the F.A.M.E. Team, and therefore recognises the power of mentoring and support through the Fellowship.

As well as sharing his own story, Robert took time in the morning to provide the Colour Project to give an inspiring insight into his colour trend predictions for the coming months – knowledge garnered from his work both as an educator and during session work.

Then it was time to get technical, as Robert demonstrated two looks – an on-trend pastel bob, and an edgier navy crop – and the colour theory and technical detail behind them.

Demonstrations done, it was time for the team to get hands on and trial what they’d learnt in the morning, practising colour techniques on their own block heads.

The Colour Project team had the opportunity to trial a number of Robert’s award-winning techniques from previous collections, providing an insight into new application methods, placements and palettes. After all, who better to learn from than a multi-award winning colourist?

Katie Scarfe from CODE Hair Consultants, a member of the Colour Project, says: “I loved our day with Robert – he really took time out to find out about us and the things we wanted to learn. He showed us step by step on so many techniques from his collections and then helped us achieve some of those techniques ourselves. We also worked on colour inspiration, where to find it and how to use it – it was massively insightful and everything we learnt can be taken back to the salon and our personal work to make us”
