F.A.M.E. Team

The F.A.M.E. Team present with Simon Shaw, 12.2.18

The F.A.M.E. Team recently had a day of stage work education with Simon Shaw from Simon Shaw Education.

It wasn’t just about how to speak in front of an audience, as Simon broke it down into many different elements to help the team understand exactly what makes up a great presentation.

“My focus was to teach the team how to deliver a clear message to a wide range of audiences,” says Simon, “We worked on their body language and positioning, along with voice control, projection and eye contact.”

Simon set them a number of different exercises to carry out in order to master each of these fundamentals, all of which involved presenting in front of one another. One of these tasks was to draw a picture of the presenter they are now, and then of the presenter they would like to be, using shapes, colours, patterns and lines to express this. The team then presented this to each other before working on their weaknesses.

“We also presented a mood board, a cut or styled mannequin head, our favourite product and object and also a poem or song,” says team member Ellie Bond from Spargo Hairdressing, “all of the time Simon was guiding us through improving our stance, body language, key messages and eye contact.”

By the end of the day, the team knew exactly how to structure the perfect presentation and were equipped with the skills to speak about their key points clearly through the use of controlled speech and breathing.

“We all thoroughly enjoyed the day,” says team member Katie Prescott from Toni&Guy, “It was such a great opportunity for us to present as a group for the first time of many. I feel so much confident and calmer and Simon was the perfect mentor. Not only that, but we all got to know each other much better as a team and cannot wait to share the stage together for the first time!”

Simon says, “I think that they found the workshop tough but incredibly rewarding. They all felt like they learnt a lot and I certainly noticed a huge improvement. I have no doubt that they will be a great success and represent the Fellowship superbly, leaving their legacy for the future.”
