Salon Owner/Director Karine Jackson Sustainable Hair

Bio

I have run my eponymous salon in the Seven Dials area of Covent Garden for 19 years now, alongside maintaining an active industry presence; in 2017 I was elected President of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing having previously served as Chancellor.

My strong focus on preventing climate change is reflected in the way the salon is run: I introduced the Organic Colour Systems range in 2007, use perming methods with more natural ingredients; use the Vish Salons system to weigh any colour used to ensure no wastage, and am a 'Green Libertine' - part of the Green Salon Collective which aims to recycle all hair and any other waste generated by the business. This work in addition to my campaign to reduce the reliance on single-use plastic led to me being awarded London’s first certified sustainable eco-salon, in addition to being shortlisted in the Colour Salon and Green Salon categories in the Salon Business Awards.

My goals are to change the way the entire salon industry works, moving towards thoughtful, sustainable hairdressing.

Mentoring subjects

My main focus is my work with mentoring the Fellowship's Clubstar Art team: I spend a day teaching the team how to work with curls for shows, shoots and on the runway.

I also devote as much time as possible to raise awareness about sustainable hairdressing through podcasts, interviews and seminars. As this is a subject I'm passionate about, I am always happy to talk to any stylist or salon owner that would like to know more.
