Diverse Inspiration at Fellowship Members’ Night

The Fellowship for British Hairdressing is all about giving a platform to its members, and its Members’ Night event is one of the best opportunities salons can get to showcase their work. Open to any member, every presenter has four minutes to showcase whatever work they want in front of an audience of fellow members, sponsors and industry heroes who provide invaluable feedback.

Hosted by President of the Fellowship, Ken Picton, and Chairperson, Simon Shaw, the night saw 10 salons present their work, as well as the debut presentation from the ClubStar Art Team 2019. Guest of Honour on the night was acclaimed session stylist and F.A.M.E. Team Leader, Nick Irwin.

India and Issey from Sculpture Salon opened the show with bold colours and strong shapes, blending shades of red and gold with loose waves and shattered layers with dusty lilac tones.

Marchella International handed over the reins to their Junior Artistic Team – with some presenters just 16 years old. They presented avant-garde updos, packed with textural detail.

Yaxley Hair & Beauty made a bold impression with their debut stage appearance, showcasing diverse shapes formed from braids and banded ponytails.

Animal Instinct was the starting point for Amandege, with textured updos inspired by the shapes, silhouettes and shades of South Africa.

Bold colours took centre stage for Ena salon, with a bold pink flat top style, a minky blonde bob and a brunette crop streaked with retro neon stripes.  Their collection is called ‘Sensory’ and the muse for their collection is Neil Harbisson who has been described as the world’s first cyborg artist.

Next it was time for Ken to sit down with the evening’s Guest of Honour, Nick Irwin. He shared the story of his time with the Fellowship – most recently as Team Leader as the F.A.M.E. Team. His inspirational career, extensive experience and open approach to ongoing education made for an engaging interview.

Jason Liddiard Salon opened the second half of the show, with a trio of textured looks formed around braids, rolls and curls.

Living Coral is Pantone’s Colour of the Year, and was the star of the show for Emily’s Hairdressing, who presented a trio of looks in the dazzling pinkish orange tone.

Luke Hawkins from the Marvellous Hair Company made his solo stage debut with a mini men’s collection, featuring three mod-inspired male looks.

Simon Tuckwell took to the stage for his first show as Tuckwell & Co; his new Nottingham salon. Supported by salon session director, Jack, he presented a post grunge-inspired collection with bold neon looks in pink and yellow.

The Gina Conway Aveda team presented their latest collection; Deja New. Featuring dramatic silhouettes in curls, waves and sleek textures, it was a diverse take on sculpting hair.

Finally, the 2019 ClubStar Art Team took to the stage for their debut presentation. Neon was the star of the show, with three looks woven through with bold tones – sewn threads creating a pattern, silk ribbons creating a corset braid and cropped look with a splash of yellow through the fringe.
