PROJECT: Men attend their first LIVE EDUCATION at Manifesto in London
Matthew Gavin, Senior Hair Stylist at Manifesto in London, is the mentor for PROJECT: Men’s first LIVE EDUCATION! The session was a ‘Look & Learn’ session, with Matt providing a practical creative hair session for the team, who travelled from as far as Scotland to attend their first LIVE EDUCATION.
Matt comments: “I thought the day was quite interesting delivering something a little bit unique and different about creative thinking to a group of creative people. I thought it went really well and opened people’s minds to a different way of thinking towards their approach to a haircut and not just doing it as a haircut but being able to manipulate it and change it into something more editorial as well.”
Tammy Reynolds added: “Matt and the Manifesto team made us feel very welcome and included. It’s always great to hear someone's take on education and creativity. Even though we all do hair we are so unique in the way we approach the creative process especially in how we research and the outside things we look at for inspiration.”
Jacob Banfield comments: “It was really interesting learning a bit more about the creative side of things especially with someone like me who is going from a salon context to more about doing competitions, it was good to get that insight from Matt.”
Kenny McLeod says: “I really enjoyed the fluidity of the haircuts and with them being non-binary, they can suit both men and women.”
George Smith added: “I enjoyed how Matt managed to find shapes within a haircut and create artwork with those shapes, I found it very interesting and something I’ve not thought about before, something I’ll definitely take back and give a go myself.”
Darren Smith: “I thoroughly enjoyed the longer version of men’s hair today, particularly working with curly hair, great insight and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.”
Paulina Stochmialek, summed up: “My favourite part of the day, was how Matt said his work is like ‘marmite’ and some people love it and some people hate it but that's what's amazing about what we do creatively because it evokes an emotion and whether it's a good or bad emotion at least it evokes one.”
