Project X Shoots Debut Collection with Bruno Marc
Kai Wan isn’t just the Team Leader for the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Project X team; he’s also an acclaimed photographer – making him the ideal person to help the team shoot their debut collection.
With Kai occupied behind the camera, mentor Bruno Marc also attended the shoot to art direct and help the team work through their looks and develop a cohesive collection of images.
The finished shots combine editorial style inspired by London Fashion Week trends with more technical detailing, highlighting some of the techniques and skills that the team has developed over their time on Project X so far including use of hairpieces and wefts and updo styling from their session with Robert Masciave and more consumer-friendly finishing techniques from time spent with HAIRDOTCOM.
“We had amazing direction from Bruno and Kai,” says Janene Hawkins from Heavenly Hairstyling. “And the team worked so well together too. The whole day was awesome and it was incredibly valuable to learn how to change hair up while on set to gain the best image. I also loved learning about art direction from Bruno, who really taught us how to move the model to capture the best hair for the image.”
“The shoot went so well,” says Phillipa Lee from Yaxley Hair & Beauty. “We had the best day and it was nice to all come together and create something as a unit; I really felt like the team really bonded just being together on set. The final images are amazing, and they truly look like a collection – we can’t wait to share them.
“Bruno taught us a lot,” she continues. “And I walked away feeling confident enough to be able to do my own shoot in the future – something which I’m absolutely working towards with my new-found skills and confidence.”
