ClubStar Art Team Hosts Inspiration Evening

The ClubStar Art Team – the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s scheme for emerging talent – recently held their first presentation evening, sharing their inspirations and collections, as well as welcoming some special guests.

Their day started with a session from Curlformers by Hairflair, who are Fellowship Bronze level sponsors.  The team worked alongside brand education manager, Carolyn Walker, to learn all about the range, and then enjoyed the opportunity to get hands on with their own models. The team presented a series of looks to open the evening show, demonstrating some of the skills they had learned earlier in the day.

Next to the stage was former ClubStar Art Team student and current F.A.M.E. Team member, Ellie Bond from Spargo Hairdressing. She shared her experiences on the team, as well as presenting a model inspired by the latest F.A.M.E. Team ‘Deviants’ collection. She shared her one tip for potential ClubStar applicants – “just go for it”. She explained that she’d put off applying for years due to confidence issues, but the boost in self-esteem she has enjoyed since her time on the team has been phenomenal.

Michael Rackett from RUSH Hair was next to present. A ClubStar Art Team member in 2015, he has since been shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year and Southern Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards. He presented a model with sleek blonde tones, completing the cut on stage for the audience.

He shared his tips for impressing and standing out at your audition, including his key message of, “be yourself’. He explained that trying to create looks that you aren’t genuinely passionate about will never impress, and that being yourself will always make you feel more comfortable.

The ClubStar Art Team then returned to the stage to share their latest collection, inspired by Japanese streetstyle. The grungy collection featured edgy shapes, striking colour and innovative techniques developed over their mentor days so far – extensions from Michelle Griffin and colour placement from Marc Antoni, to name just two.

Finally, special guest Errol Douglas MBE took to the stage to create a look inspired by his latest collection; an avant-garde style formed from wire and plastic. As he worked, he shared his own experience within the Fellowship, explaining the importance of attending as many of their shows and seminars as possible to stay inspired and see what’s happening in your industry.

Closing the evening, ClubStar mentor – and host for the evening – Simon Tuckwell urged potential team members to take the plunge and apply, calling the application process “win or learn, not win or lose”.
