Edward Hemmings Shares Presentation Skills in Sell-Out Seminar

Presentation skills are a must for any hairdresser, whether you want to feel more confident communicating with clients, embark on stage work, or work as a brand ambassador imparting education.

Although it’s an area that impacts most aspects of life as a hairdresser, presenting clearly and concisely – with confidence – is still something that many hairdressers struggle with.

Long-time Fellowship for British Hairdressing member and Council representative, Edward Hemmings, is an expert in removing the fear from presenting, and regular host of the Fellowship’s Presentation Skills workshop – which took place this week at the ghd Studio in Soho, London.

A total of 12 hairdressers joined the workshop, including guests who had flown in from Estonia and Bulgaria in order to enhance their skills. With a mixed level of experience between them, the team started the day by sharing their concerns about presenting in front of others.

Edward helped the team to debunk some myths, and explain what they did need to worry about – and how they could control it – and what they didn’t need to worry about, and couldn’t control. “By removing some of the burden, there’s literally far less to worry about,” he explained.

In the afternoon, after hearing more of Edward’s insight, each learner stood up and presented in front of the group twice; once as they would normally, and the second time taking on board feedback from both Edward and the rest of the group.

By practising their subject, working on common mistakes, and providing one another with helpful and insightful feedback, the entire group walked away feeling far more confident about their presentation skills and equipped to tackle their own communication challenges going forward.

I also loved seeing my teammates inspired – it made me burst with pride to see them presenting, because they have never had the confidence to do so previously.
