FELLOWSHIP FOUNDATION AWARD WINNER SPENDS A DAY WITH THE FELLOWSHIP’S PROJECT X TEAM

Concept Hair Learner of the Year finalist and Fellowship Foundation Awards winner, Carly Behan, was delighted to win and spend a day with The Fellowship’s Project X Team including Project Leader, Lisa Farrall and Guest Educators Efi Davis, Darja Lätt and Stuart Matuski.

Carly entered an in-house competition through her college, Riverside College Kingsway, before being placed in the top six in the class with her imagery and then being entered into the Concept Learner Award Competition.

To enter the Concept Hair Learner of the Year competition, Carly had to submit imagery for the Avant Garde category with a theme of ‘Fantasy Hair’ and decided to create a take on the dragon braid, incorporating a head piece with feathers. Carly was then announced as one of six finalists for the category.

All finalists in each of the categories for the Concept Learner of the Year Awards, which included not only the Avant Garde but also Colouring, Styling, Barbering and Hair Up, were then entered into an additional category - The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Fellowship Foundation Award category judged on overall talent, where Carly was announced as one of the winners.

Winning the category, Carly was awarded an Avant Garde Workshop Day with the Fellowship Project X Team learning more about avant garde and how different materials can help to create more unique, statement looks.  The day started with Efi and Darja providing demos on live models showcasing a variety of avant garde looks and then discussed tips in regards to avant garde hair, including how the hair can be styled underneath props and how to use natural hair as padding. Stuart then focused on all things colour and how colour can be used to create more eclectic avant garde styles via different brush strokes and using resources such as cling film.

Commenting on the incredible day, Carly said, “I had a fantastic day with the Project X team. The day opened my mind creatively and showed me what you can actually do with certain materials you wouldn’t even think of using. The day also inspired me to work on shoots and catwalks and delve into this area of hairdressing more. I would also love to apply for The Fellowship and their Project Teams. I learnt a lot about The Fellowship from going to the Project X Team Day, they provided me with some information on what it takes, what you have got to do, the courses they have been on and it’s something I would love to be a part of in the future.”

Lisa Farrall, Project X Team Leader said, “As the Project X Leader I’ve arranged some money can’t buy experiences for my 2023 team, the avant garde day with Efi was no exception. When I was a judge at the Concept Learner of the Year competition Carly showed fantastic talent and as the Fellowship winner, I wanted her to have a day with me and my team. She learned some amazing avant garde techniques and I can’t wait to see what she creates after her day with us.”
