PROJECT EXTEND SPEND THE DAY WITH BRAND PARTNER RUKA

Ruka produces hair extensions that match natural curls and coils.  The team travelled to the home of Ruka’s lead educator Sandy Wood in Essex to help the team get a better understanding of Afro hair and how to care for it.

Lucy Melvin comments: “I learnt how to shampoo Afro hair and the correct way to blow dry curly hair and the reason why it must be wet when drying each section. I learnt about the difference between curls/textures. I was shown how affective clipping is and how to create a different look for a client who doesn’t want the commitment of hair extensions. I was shown a way how wefts are sewn into the hair and the reason why this method works best. It was really lovely to work with different textures and to see how you can add hair to create shape and volume which can be used day to day or Avant Garde.”

Emma Holt comments: “I thought the day was really helpful and to understand how to manage afro hair.  How to care for it and how to help people also manage their hair so they can enjoy their Afro without the stress of it matting. Was a good educational day.”
