THE FELLOWSHIP PRESENTS HAIR & VISION 'THE CUT' SPONSORED BY WELLA PROFESSIONALS

The Fellowship presents Hair & Vision returned to Edinburgh for another fantastic event 'The Cut'. sponsored by Wella Professionals.

Held within the creative hub that is Medusa Hairdressing situated in the bustling city centre of Edinburgh, the event brought together stylists and colourists alike, to discuss the importance of the cut in the salon today, highlighting the history, the trends and the techniques involved in the progression within this sector of the industry and how salon owners can use to make sure their salon retains and builds their cut clients, and that their teams are forever evolving in their careers.

To begin the evening Fellowship for British Hairdressing Executive Board Member and Medusa Founder Colin McAndrew welcomed the audience and gave an insight into what to expect from the evening. He then introduced Wella Studio Leader Anna Mackew, who welcomed guests to the Scottish creative hub and shared a little information surrounding the history and evolution of the brand and gave a deeper look into their new educational offerings. The duo then introduced our artists and brought the team to the floor for the creative session.

Beginning the evening was Steph Gallagher, current 2023 F.A.M.E. Team Member and Stylist of Wonderland, who demonstrated a creative a grunge textured look inspired by the 80’s dance – a very interesting and truly relatable look. Steph shared with the audience her though process and story behind the look, which included the glow stick product dispersion … a trend much loved on the 80’s dance scene. Working alongside Steph was International Educator and Stylist Frazer Wallace of The Haus Studio who brought to life a short, sharp bob whilst transforming this with a texturised fringe. Frazer then explained to the audience the link between the cut and the colour and why the pairing of both is vitally important. Next up was Scottish barber Luke Ellis of Edinburgh Barbershop who showcased a trending mens look, working with clippers and creating a texturised top section with a faded back and sides section. Luke discussed with the audience how the barbering sector is progressing, with classic ‘trends’ now transforming into requested looks as opposed to typical trends.

Host for the evening Colin then introduced our Q&A section featuring current F.A.M.E. Team member Steph Gallagher and past F.A.M.E. Team member and Medusa Director Peter Mellon. The duo held a relaxed conversation whilst conducting a mini interview, discussing their different experiences and journey on the team and the knowledge and skills learned. The two also discussed the process of winning a place on the team and how their year gave them the skills and knowledge to pursue progression within the hairdressing industry. The pair also shared with the audience their favourite moments and how both their respected teams bonded over the creative industry that they love.

Colin then welcomed the headliners to the stage, Wella International Educator and Award Winning Hairdresser Charlie Taylor and Medusa Director and Educator Paul Paterson who shared with their audience their exceptional looks created using a lifetime of skill and experience. Charlie introduced her tequila sunrise look, pairing together a beautiful blend of fuschia, orange and sunshine yellow alongside a beautiful sleek and high shine, sharp and defined bob. During the live cut, Charlie discussed with the audience how the origins of cutting remain the same and gave her advice on how to ensure every hairstyle has a great cut as its foundation. She explained how cuts will never go out of fashion and why this will remain a staple skill that all stylists should master. Colin then introduced Paul who talked us through his colour blocking technique partnered with a disconnected short crop, with a blunt staple fringe to complete the look. Paul explained his love for cutting and how the variation of clients keeps the industry on its toes as the trends are forever changing.

Bringing the evening to a close, both Colin McAndrew and Anna Mackew thanked everyone for their attendance and the artists for their incredibly insightful presentations.
